Today has been rough! I am glad it is over!!!

My hubby took our little boy to the doctor Monday...no strep, no ear infection...has a virus...sent him home. We have been giving him stuffy nose medicine, etc this week and he went to pre-k Tuesday and Wednesday...no fever...but congested still.

I worked at the office Monday and from home the last 2 days. My boss needed me in the office some today, so I took William to school and headed to work. I could tell he was not getting better but he kept telling me nothing hurt and wanted to go play at school...but he still had that runny nose and a little cough. I gave him some tylenol cold and cough medicine and took him on since my boss needed me today for those few hours.

After a couple of hours, William's teacher called me and said he is coughing a lot and just laying on his rest mat...not really wanting to talk, play or eat his lunch. So I said I would wrap up and head that way, but that I was in Lexington, not Richmond so it would take me a little bit longer.

On the way to get him, I remembered that I forgot to update ONE number in the budget worksheet (for 14 hotels, 2 corportate offices, 1 storage facility, and summary sheets are all in this file!). I called a friend/co-worker and asked her to please go in and update the ONE number and it would update the whole year because of the links I set up. But when she tried to open the file she got an error message. I told her not to worry about it...but let our boss know, and if no one got to it soon, I would log in from home and update it.

Anyways...William was asleep when I got there to pick him up. I carried him out to the car and his teacher carried all his stuff and my purse. (It is hard to belive how fast they grow!). I called his doctor once in the car and got an appointment. I had just enough time to stop by my house in Richmond, fix the ONE number...then head BACK to Lexington to his doctor.

When I opened the file...I got an error message and it asked me if I wanted it to recover the file. Well YES! We CAN not lose that much information! When I did, it had all the info...but NONE of the formatting! I did not have time to fix THAT!

So I take William to the doctor...he has a sinus infection AND the crup cough virus in his throat...that bark sounding cough. The doctor said they would fax the prescription right in so by the time I get back to Richmond, it should be ready. All the while...William just wants to go home...poor little guy!

We stand in line at Walmart pharmacy...about 15 people ahead of us. I have him laying on a blanket in the cart with his coat as his pillow and my coat as his blanket. We get up there and it wasn't in the system! She goes to check...and said they JUST received the fax and it would be TWO HOURS before it would be ready. UGH!!! That was a waste of time in the other direction! So I buy some more OTC medicine, a toy for William, and some cupcakes because he missed the birthday cupcakes at school today for one of his classmates.

When I get in the car I realize I have a text from my boss (she is the VP) about the formatting. I call and talk to her as I am driving us home (William coughing in the back seat the whole time). I tell her about all the above and she says she will go talk to the IT department head because she had been getting other errors that day too. We brainstorm trying to figure out the fastest way to fix everything because our boss (the owner) would not review the unformatted black and white sheets...even though all the numbers were correct.

So I told her as soon as I get home, I would get William settled and start on fixing everything (copying the correct data into the already formatted old file was the quickest way we figured). 7 hours later with only 30 minutes out of it spent with William before he went to bed...I FINALLY have it all fixed. I emailed the file to my home computer, saved it here, emailed it back to work...to keep in my email at work and not on the server...I do NOT want anything like this to happen again!

According to IT...when my friend tried to open the file in the old Excel version...it corrupted it. She is now getting her computer updated. And I feel AWFUL that I called her and asked her to open the file. I had NO IDEA something like that could happen...and neithr did my boss luckily.

I so hate my little guy being so sick. My mom is not going to come and watch him tomorrow since he is sick, so my hubby is going to take a half day off of work so I can go to the office for the afternoon/evening. For a long time now my mom and stepdad come up as many Friday's as they can...at least every other week...so I can go to the office. Then I worked from home the rest of the week. But recently my boss asked if I could work even more hours. So I signed William up for the other 2 day a week pre-k class with his same teacher. So he is now going 4 days a week for 5 hours a day. That gives me more hours during the day (and not just at night) to do my work.

Okay....I just realized how LONG I have typed. I need to stop anyway because I hear William coughing. I need to go give him some more medicine.

Thanks for letting me vent here...

Awww, Sherry, I am so sorry you had such a rotten day! That sucks that you had to run all over and that poor William is still so sick and about your file.

I am glad that you were able to recover your file. I know how bad it can be when you lose something like that and it's unrecoverable.

I really hope that William feels better soon! Poor little guy!

I hope that today and the weekend are great for you!

Oh Sherry sorry poor William is so sick. But work is so painful when one tiny thing turns into a time consuming nightmare.

Thanks everyone!!!

Sorry I typed so much! lol!

As you can guess they had to cancel their conference call with the regional manager to go over this at 4 yesterday. That is the ONLY reason I called my friend to ask her to fix the one number. I wanted it correct when they looked at it. Looking back it would have been better to been wrong about that one number!

I am just grateful that I had one file that had the correct data and one file that had the right formatting and I that I was able to combine them to get it fixed.

Now today I will have to work on what I was going to work on last night, lol!

I really do love my job and the people I work with. But we all have bad days or time periods things aren't the greatest for one reson or another.

They do not have ONE other person that has my situation where I work and I soooooooooooo appreciate it. I have worked there almost 8 years. When I had William, I was going to be a full-time stay at home mom. They talked me into working part time at first on some projects. Then it moved to working in the office every other Friday and some from home, then to every Friday and some from home, and now I pop in a couple days a week while William is in pre-k and my Friday's when my mom is here with him. I LOVE working from home when I can. If you walk by my desk at work, you can see my computer working just like I am sitting there, but no one is there (well at least when I don't black the screen out)! Since my boss knows me, they let me do this. Not one other finance/accounting person gets to do this for them. They have the standard work hours. I truly am blessed...

William is still sick, but better today than yesterday. He has played more today. So that is always a good sign. Smile

That is good to hear that William is feeling better! It seems like everyone is sick right now! It must be that time of year!

And I'm glad that everything worked out at work! I bet you were sweating bullets trying to get it all figured out! Laughing

Good to hear William is feeling better today.

The twins amaze me. The will be really sick, have a fever. I treat the fever and they feel marginally better and try to play. Max had a fever tonight after it came down, he went all the way downstairs to tell he was better. I was sewing his wallhanging so maybe he was peeking.
